RNUI / documentation

Getting started

Install RNUI into an Expo app with the shadcn CLI, then import the component source from your project.

RNUI targets React Native >=0.83 and React 19.x. The example app uses Expo; install the engine setup that matches your project before adding components.

Install the theme and first component

The commands below use the nativewind registry variant. Replace nativewind with uniwind if your app uses Tailwind CSS v4.

install.sh
npx shadcn add https://raw.githubusercontent.com/truongnat/rnui/main/registry/dist/nativewind/theme.json
npx shadcn add https://raw.githubusercontent.com/truongnat/rnui/main/registry/dist/nativewind/button.json

The first component also installs its declared registry dependencies, such as shared utilities and theme setup.

Import the copied source

button.tsx
import { Button } from '@/components/ui/button';

<Button>Continue</Button>

Components are copied to components/ui/<name>.tsx. Change the source to fit your app; updates are made by adding or replacing registry files, not by upgrading an RNUI runtime package.

Already use the RNUI CLI? Run npx github:truongnat/rnui#cli init to automate engine setup, then npx github:truongnat/rnui#cli add button.

Requirements

Some components declare additional peer dependencies. The shadcn CLI lists them during installation; install native packages with npx expo install so their versions match your Expo SDK.
